Very good quality, outdoor bred Wild Red Cherry Shrimp. These are not culls of red cherry shrimp that some people often sell as wild cherry shrimp, that end up having lots of babies with red in, this is the original wild caught strain that is a clear / light brown / translucent colour. They do sometimes have a baby with red in it, this is how the Red Cherry strain was created, by selecting these ones with red colour and breeding them with each other to enhance the red. They also sometimes have babies with lots of brown in. So you can create your own strain of red from scratch if you want but these are a more “natural” looking shrimp. I originally obtained this strain back in 2013 and have kept it pure since then, by constantly removing the red ones and breeding them separately. I do not guarantee males or females, if you want both sexes we recommend ordering 10.
Cherry shrimp have a distinctive head with a pointy rostrum (nose) and four antennae (one pair longer than the other). Cherry shrimp have eyes that protrude on stalks on either side of the rostrum, and three pairs of short legs beneath the mouth that help the shrimp scavenge for food. The red cherry shrimp’s abdomen has six overlapping shell segments and five pairs of legs for swimming. Red Cherry Shrimp thrive in well-planted aquariums, with dried leaves, mosses and grass being the plants of choice.
They are fine to keep with peaceful fish such as tetras and most live bearers, though keep in mind if your aim is to breed them then they are best kept on their own without fish because they babies will almost certainly be eaten by the fish.
