Description
Very good quality, outdoor bred Neocaridina Red Cherry Shrimp. These are the ‘culls’ of our normal red cherry shrimp. The ones that didn’t have as much red in as our normal Red Cherry Shrimp. They are usually translucent with red spekkles or red with translucent patches. Their offspring may be very red but we do not guarantee this. We also do not guarantee males or females either, if you want both sexes we recommend ordering 10.
These popular, hardy Red Cherry Shrimp are great for people wanting to start out keeping and breeding shrimp. They are bright so look great in a planted aquarium. They love to live in grass or moss so we recommend having a planted tropical aquarium. Cherry shrimp, Neocaridina davidi, have many common names including cherry red shrimp, fire cherry shrimp, fire shrimp and red shrimps. You need to continuously ‘cull’ your shrimp from the ‘less red’ shrimp to keep your line of cherry shrimp as red as possible if you goal is to maintain a pure red line.
Cherry shrimp have a distinctive head with a pointy rostrum (nose) and four antennae (one pair longer than the other). Cherry shrimp have eyes that protrude on stalks on either side of the rostrum, and three pairs of short legs beneath the mouth that help the shrimp scavenge for food. The red cherry shrimp’s abdomen has six overlapping shell segments and five pairs of legs for swimming.
They are fine to keep with peaceful fish such as tetras and most live bearers, though keep in mind if your aim is to breed them then they are best kept on their own without fish because they babies will almost certainly be eaten by the fish.
